We all know Metro Manila to be congested. We also know that most people who keep Metro Manila crowded come from the provinces. Now, many have lost their homes and may have to stay in evacuation centers for months.
Isn’t this the best time (an opportunity) for social workers from DSWD, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) and NGOs to go to work and engage these evacuees to explore possibilities of going back to the provinces? Can’t the government, business sector, and civil society explore the possibilities of providing jobs, small businesses, agriculture, and other avenues for a renewed life in the provinces (or the countrysides) for these evacuees?
And maybe, Metro Manila will be decongested, while the countrysides will be enlivened with new and productive activities.
I hope and pray that this idea will see the light of fruition, soon. So be it.
